In a holiday video message Dec. 5, the commander for the Air Force's largest combat wing thanked his team for their accomplishments during 2008.

18th Wing commander, Brig. Gen. Brett Williams, also highlighted the importance of the 18th Wing's mission to peace and stability in the Asia-Pacific region.

"We have demonstrated that we are trained and ready to fly, fight and win in the defense of our nation, our Japanese partners and our regional allies," said General Williams.

"From earning an 'excellent' rating on our Operational Readiness Inspection, to supporting deployment taskings all over the world, to putting on a world class AmericaFest open house for our families and our Okinawan neighbors," he added, "you have embodied the Air Force's dedication to integrity, service and excellence."

The general also thanked Kadena Air Base's Japanese employees, deployed Airmen and family members. He emphasized the critical role families play in keeping the team ready.

"For all of our family members, thank you for what you do every day to support the mission," said Brig. Gen. Williams. "You make countless sacrifices so that our Airmen can remain focused on their mission."

Brig. Gen. Williams concluded the video by wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season.
