Kadena families may need to adjust their travel plans if they want to make it home for the holidays.

The Patriot Express, which flies out of Kadena every Thursday, will not offer flights Thanksgiving Week or the week leading up to Christmas. In December, the PE will operate its regularly scheduled Thursday flights Dec. 4, 11, and 18 and will also offer a flight on Monday, Dec. 29.

Flights are not available for the specified days because the dates are identified in a negotiated contract between the U.S. Transportation Command and Northwest Airlines, said Master Sgt. Richard Malik, 733rd Air Mobility Squadron passenger services superintendent.

"Depending on how many passengers are already booked to travel for duty or PCS reasons, Space Available seating will be very limited," warns Sergeant Malik.

The regular weekly schedule will resume on Jan. 8, 2009 and will continue until Mar. 30.

"USTRANSCOM is currently working on having a contract to continue Patriot Express flights past Mar. 30," Sergeant Malik added.
