During Beverly High 08-3 the 18th Wing tested its on-ward movement of forces capability with the personnel deployment function line. The PDF line insures all Airmen departing receive the necessary care for health, finances and spiritual well being.

"I make sure everything is done in an organized and timely manner to meet chalk time and to ensure everybody is taken care of to the highest standard possible," said Capt. Rose Englebert, PDF officer in charge.

All Airmen, whether wing or tenant unit, are taken to the deployment control center to out process through the base. This is the last stop for all their needs to be met before getting on the aircraft to deploy, said Captain Englebert.

The Airmen's records are meticulously checked at the deployment line. Line members ensure each deployer has a current identification card, has their immunizations up to date, and offer help with legal matters, finances and counseling.

"The Airmen are met by representatives from different squadrons through the deployment line ensuring their eligibility to deploy," she said.

One area necessary to out process the base is the finance section, which certifies all orders.
"All deployable personnel are mandated to have a finance briefing. Without it they could not process through the PDF line," said Airman Thomas Rutherford, 18th Wing Comptroller Squadron, finance customer service representative.

If finance is taken out of the picture, it would be difficult for the PDF line to process them, he said.

Out processing through the PDF line is important for accountability.

"We need to ensure we account for all of our personnel and know whether they are here or deployed," said Captain Englebert.

The PDF line is the last means to ensure those deploying have everything they need before departing; it is a last check, she said.
