The 18th Medical Group, the Air Force's largest freestanding ambulatory clinic in terms of assigned personnel, provides extensive medical, dental and support services to Kadena and other Department of Defense beneficiaries living on Okinawa. More than 70 medical and dental providers care for nearly 800 patients every day. Specific services include family practice, pediatrics, gynecology, optometry, mental health (including adult and child psychiatry), physiological training, and a health and wellness center. Four squadrons with 500 people comprise the medical group.

The 18th Medical Operations Squadron provides family medicine, internal medicine, pulmonary medicine, women's health, allergy, immunizations, pediatrics, ambulance and comprehensive counseling services. The family medicine team assigns its provider staff to wing units promoting continuity of services. Squadron members also staff a 14-bed neonatal intensive care unit, located at the U.S. Naval Hospital on Camp Lester. The U.S. Naval Hospital is located near Kadena and is only a 10- to 15-minute drive away. For more information about the Naval Hospital, visit their web site at http://www.oki.med.navy.mil

The 18th Aerospace Medicine Squadron delivers aerospace medicine services to enhance human performance and minimize the loss of valuable assets from disease and non-battle injuries. Utilizing our expertise in the areas of physiology training, bioenvironmental engineering, public heath, flight medicine, health and wellness activities, medical readiness, optometric care and aeromedical movements the 18th Aerospace Medicine Squadron provides valuable tools to improve the peacetime and if necessary the wartime posture of Team Kadena and our family members.

The 18th Medical Support Squadron obtains and maintains all supplies, equipment and staffing for the medical group. The squadron is composed of six flights, including pharmacy, radiology and laboratory services. The Medical Support Squadron executes a $7 million annual operating budget that provides the foundation of care for Kadena Team. The squadron also oversees TRICARE services.

The 18th Dental Squadron provides comprehensive general dentistry as well as specialty care in orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, endodontics, and oral surgery. In addition, the squadron also provides Area Dental Laboratory services to 52 tri-service dental treatment facilities in PACAF.
