Former 390th Airman returns, shares experience with new generation
Curtis Towne, Department of Defense civilian employee, speaks to members of the 390th Intelligence Squadron April 29, 2016, at Kadena Air Base, Japan. Towne was a linguist assigned to the 390th IS performing missions onboard a Navy EP-3 Aries II April 1, 2001, when the aircraft was struck by a People’s Republic of China jet. The collision resulted in a crash-landing on Hainan Island where the crew was detained by PRC officials for 12 days. During his return to Kadena this year, Towne shared his experiences and spoke about the importance of keeping a level head under pressure. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Lynette M. Rolen)
