Airmen from the 374th Communications Squadron completed a 40-hour climb certification training course at Yokota Air Base, Japan, March 19.

For all cable technicians, nicknamed cable dawgs, assigned to the cable and antenna shop, there is an annual climb training requirement. Only experienced climbers can complete the certification course, which gives them the ability to then train other career fields with a climbing mission.

Climbing is an important aspect of the communications career field as it allows them to perform antenna installation and preventative maintenance inspections around Yokota. The cable and antenna shop maintains network infrastructure cables that power devices such as fiber optic cables, copper cables, and antennas.
