Kadena to host Rockin' the Block, advises road closures

The 18th Force Support Squadron-sponsored event, Rockin' the Block, is scheduled to be held June 29 from 2-10 p.m. along Adams Avenue behind the Risner Fitness Center.

The event will host numerous bands and entertainment including One Republic sponsored by the Department of Defense's Armed Forces Entertainment, food, prizes, rides and games, with fireworks later in the evening.

In observance of the event, service members, DoD contracted civilians and Japan-U.S. Status of Forces-status individuals are reminded that road closures will be implemented.

From June 24 through the event teardown and clean up, the backmost parking lot for the Risner will be closed. Additionally, from June 26-30, a portion of Adams Avenue will be closed to thoroughfare traffic, affecting Lorling Avenue and other adjacent neighborhoods.

Similarly, due to live fireworks, the Four Diamonds will be closed to pedestrians, and should be avoided the day of the event.

Also, due to a lack of parking, shuttles from the 18th Medical Group and Kadena Chapel 1 will be able to pick up pedestrians and deliver them to the event every 15 minutes from 2-11 p.m.

Remember that during the event, those attending are not allowed to bring glass or pets, and there will not be designated smoking areas at the event site.

Vendor booths for food and children's rides will accept both U.S. dollars and Japanese Yen.
