Kadena Airman earns PACAF Theater Air Control Systems award

KADENA AIR BASE, Japan --  A 623rd Air Control Flight Airman was recently recognized with a 2012 Pacific Air Forces Theater Air Control System award for meritorious service.

Senior Airman Thuy Nguyen, 623rd ACF weapons director technician and instructor, earned the PACAF Command and Control Battle Management Operator of the Year Award in the Airman category.

"She has spent countless hours on scope perfecting her craft, and because of this she was selected as an instructor, a position normally held by an NCO," said Staff Sgt. Stephanie Leal, NCO in charge of training operations. "Her dedication has directly impacted our unit and I believe this award could not have gone to a more deserving individual."

Her award was part of six other Pacific Air Forces awards that made up the PACAF Theater Air Control Systems awards.

The 2012 PACAF Theater Air Control System award winners are:

Air Battle Manager of the Year: Capt. Anne C. Ridlon, 621st Air Control Squadron, Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea

Command and Control Battle Management Operator of the Year - Airmen Category I: Senior Airman Thuy T. Nguyen, 623rd Air Control Flight, Kadena AB, Japan

Command and Control Battle Management Operator of the Year - NCO Category I: Staff Sgt. Daniel B. MacPherson, 621st ACS, Osan AB, Republic of Korea

Command and Control Battle Management Operator of the Year - Senior NCO Category I: Master Sgt. John P. Jones, 621st ACS, Osan AB, Republic of Korea

Airborne Battle Management System Operator of the Year - NCO Category I: Staff Sgt. Patrick R. Culhane, 962nd Airborne Air Control Squadron, Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska

Airborne Air Battle Management Crew of the Year: 962nd AACS (970 Expeditionary Airborne Air Control Squadron crew 5), Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska

Ground-Based Battle Management Command and Control Crew of the Year: 621st ACS (Alpha Crew), Osan AB, Republic of Korea
