Beers 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Military members need to prepare to pay the annual road tax for their personal vehicles To make life a little easier, the military bases around island will have designated days when road tax can be paid on base. To see the schedule and prices, Click Here. Payment can only be in Japanese Yen. Checks, credit cards and U.S. currency are not accepted. The required documents needed are military registration, 2011 road tax receipt, vehicle title, Japanese compulsory insurance and American insurance. Mini-car and motorcycle taxes must be paid between April 1 and May 31 and can be paid at local city, town or village offices between 8:30 a.m. and noon and 1-5 p.m. Bring the receipt to the Joint Service Vehicle Registration office or tax collection site to get a 2012 road tax sticker. All vehicles not de-registered before April 1 must pay road tax and all vehicles must display a 2012 road tax sticker before June 1.
