During an awards ceremony held Feb. 3, 2012 at Naha Air Base, the Japan-America Air Force Goodwill Association recognized a top Airman from the Japan Air Self Defense Force and the United States Air Force for their contributions that strengthen the bond between the U.S. and Japan.

Recognized were: Chief Master Sgt. Akira Akimoto for his contributions to the alliance as he spearheaded U.S. visits and training to Naha Air Base and supported Kadena professional development programs. Senior Airman Veronica Cox for her efforts during Operation Tomodachi where her fluent Japanese speaking skills were vital to ensuring people received much needed assistance and supplies in the wake of the devastating tsunami.

"We are indeed proud of Chief Master Sgt. Akimoto and Senior Airman Cox's contributions to the alliance; they bring great honor to our countries, our services, and to themselves. Thank you to these two special individuals for exemplifying the spirit and professionalism that defines our two great Air Forces," said Brig. Gen. Matthew Molloy, commander of the 18th Wing during the ceremony.

Japan America JAAGA is comprised of mostly retired JASDF general officers and colonels. The goal of the organization is to contribute to the improvement of mutual trust between Japan and the United States of America through the activities which promote mutual understanding and friendship between USAF and JASDF. Every year, JAAGA gives an award to an Airman nominated by the 18th wing and JASDF Naha Air Base in Okinawa.
