U.S. Air Force Lt. Gen. (Dr.) Charles Green, Surgeon General of the Air Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington D.C., visited Team Kadena Dec. 16 and 17 to speak with the medical Airmen stationed here.

Green toured the 18th Medical Group to see what new measures the Airmen were implementing to take care of patients.

"We hope the new methods provide continuity and help to provide care to all beneficiaries," said Green.

The surgeon general also stopped by Camp Lester Naval Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit and the 18th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron, both units holding special meaning to Green.

"I used to fly with the air evac when it was back at Clark [Air Base] in the '90s," he said. "I was responsible for moving the natal care unit over to Lester in '91."

One of the challenges of providing health care overseas is logistics.

"It's all about having the right things at the right time," said Green. "It's also more important to have people trained well when they are away from America."

This visit was part of a Japanese base tour for the surgeon general.

"I've been in the Air Force now for 34 years," said Green with a smile. "My most exciting assignment was here in PACAF."
