2011 brings changes to Kadena's airport shuttle Published Feb. 8, 2011 By Lt. Col. Doug Dickerson 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron commander KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- After reviewing ridership and cost effectiveness of the Naha-Kadena shuttle, the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron has revised the shuttle schedule to operate two shuttles a day for pickup of passengers from Naha Airport. Effective immediately, the shuttle will depart Naha airport at 10a.m. and 10:15 p.m., en route to Kadena. For transfer to Naha Airport, there's one shuttle that departs Kadena at approximately 8 a.m. Passengers on official orders will have priority over those on leisure travel. Government transportation to commercial airports is not based solely on rank, position, prestige or personal convenience. For official travel, IAW DOD 4500.36-R, the following methods of transportation must be used in the sequence shown to the extent they are available and to meet mission requirements: 1. Department of Defense scheduled bus service (Naha Airport shuttle schedule) https://newafpims.afnews.af.mil/shared/media/document/AFD-101215-043.pdf 2. Scheduled public transportation 3. DoD motor vehicles (unit owned/operated assets) 4. Voluntary use of privately owned vehicle 5. Commercial taxi 6. DoD motor vehicle dispatched "taxicab" (18 LRS Vehicle Operations) Additionally, unit-assigned government vehicles are not authorized for transportation to the airport terminal when the 18 LRS Naha shuttle is operating, since doing so would be redundant. Travelers will not be reimbursed for voluntary use of privately owned vehicles or commercial taxi, when other DoD scheduled transportation, scheduled public transportation, or other DoD motor vehicles are available. Unit travel order approving officials and voucher reviewers will make the decision if DoD scheduled bus service or a unit-assigned vehicle will meet the needs of the traveler. Groups of 12 or more on official orders are asked to contact Vehicle Dispatch at 634-4505 to make other arrangements when the bus schedule does not suit their needs. For information regarding reimbursement for travel, contact the finance office. The shuttle route times are provided below. This schedule excludes U.S. federal holidays, Pacific Air Forces Family Days and Typhoon Condition 1. Schedules are posted at the Air Mobility Command terminal, the Shogun Inn or can be viewed at www.kadena.af.mil. First Route 7:50 a.m. - Departure time from AMC Terminal, Bldg 3409 Kadena 8:05 a.m. - Departure time from Shogun Inn, Bldg 332 Kadena 9:30 a.m - Estimated arrival time at Domestic Terminal, Naha Airport 9:50 a.m. - Estimated arrival time at International Terminal, Naha Airport 10 a.m. - Estimated departure 10:45 a.m. - Estimated arrival time to Kadena (stops at AMC Terminal and Shogun Inn) Second Route 10:15 p.m. - Estimated departure from Naha Airport (Vehicle will depart 30 min after last flight arrives) 11 p.m. - Estimated arrival time to Kadena (stops at AMC Terminal and Shogun Inn).
