How is base housing on Okinawa? The Air Force wants to know.... Published Oct. 31, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Mike Tateishi 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Residents in military family housing are slated to receive a housing survey via email this week from Air Force housing. The survey, should take 10-15 minutes to complete but could take a little longer as residents will be able to provide additional comments and observations. "The results of the survey will have a direct impact on the quality of life enjoyed by residents of military family housing on Okinawa," said Roberto Castellanos, deputy chief Air Force Housing Division. "It will give residents the opportunity to highlight what they like or dislike about living in military family housing, to include an opportunity to suggest what is important to improve their quality of life in family housing." This survey may be run by the Air Force, but Mr. Castellanos added it's important for Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines living in military family housing to participate because the Air Force manages family housing island-wide. The data from the survey will be used by PACAF headquarters and the Housing Division at Headquarters Air Force to plan for and prioritize future investments to provide quality housing. Information collected will also help at the local level as well. "Data will also help the 18th Civil Engineer Group facilitate and gain efficiencies in the housing maintenance and operations," said Mr. Castellanos. Residents will not be required to disclose any personal identification information unless a resident requests to be identified and contacted. Results will be strictly anonymous. The last time survey was done in Okinawa was 2006 and yielded a 31 percent return rate. The more people that take the survey will broaden the impact of any solution undertaken to address resident concerns.
