FSS bringing improvements to facilities Published June 11, 2010 By Tech. Sgt. Rey Ramon 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Whether you are lodging at the Shogun Inn or dining at one of Kadena's eateries, the 18th Force Support Squadron finds solutions to bring you satisfaction. The latest is the long-standing and popular Seaside Inn with a makeover. Kadena's Force Support Squadron wants to provide SOFA status personnel with a wide variety of dining options. The concept of the restaurant is a combination of seafood and Italian dishes. The squadron relocated Mike's Italian restaurant and combined it with the Seaside facility to give a new dining experience for its patrons. "The Seaside Inn restaurant was very popular and located at such a beautiful location, but the building needed some renovations," said Kerri Pocock, 18th FSS senior marketing. "The squadron used this need to create an opportunity to open a completely new restaurant concept." The new Seaside Ristorante offers a combination of fresh seafood, and Italian cuisines, including a 'to go' window you can walk up to from the beach to order food and drinks. What is not new, but is considered one of the best views on the island are the picturesque sunsets at the Kadena Marina, Ms. Pocock said. These kinds of changes have been in planning for some time now and it only gets better for the squadron's customers. In addition to the new restaurant, the Force Support Squadron is working on installing internet capabilities to the whole Shogun Inn lodging complex. The complex consists of 15 buildings with over 650 rooms and a whole lot of hardwiring to bring customers online, said Steve Jornet, 18th Force Support Squadron chief of information technology. "My team is looking at 100 percent complete connection to every room in lodging by July 31," Mr. Jornet said. Mr. Jornet and Perry Kosmatka, 18th FSS resource management flight chief, stresses to customers that the squadron's internet service will have a firewall to prevent users from going into prohibited or inappropriate websites. Senior officials of the Force Support Squadron agree it has added great enhancements to its facilities, spending more than $1 million, to invest in the quality of life for families here at Kadena.
