A star was born this week after Brig. Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach, 18th Wing commander, assumed the rank for which he was selected earlier this year.

His official date of rank, Aug. 17, 2009, was preceded by a promotion ceremony, where Gen. Carroll "Howie" Chandler and Cindy Wilsbach, pinned on the shiny silver stars.

General Wilsbach, who has had assignments such as commander of the 53rd Wing at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and as director of operations at the Combined Air Operations Center for U.S. Air Forces Central, took command of the 18th Wing in July.

The command pilot has amassed 3,600 flying hours in his career, and is a 1985 distinguished graduate of the Reserve Officer Training Program at the University of Florida.
