Kadena families can fight the heat in Okinawa and enjoy the summer at the Hagerstrom pool during Splashtacular July 10.

The18th Force Support Squadron will provide a disc jockey, food and prizes at the grand reopening. Also, individuals of all ages can experience the winding waterslide, water basketball hoops, a diving board, and the newest feature, a splash playground.

"It's a large pool with plenty of space for everyone to spread out," said Julia Mack, 18th Force Support Squadron aquatics instructor. "There is plenty of things to do for the older kids and a safe area for the little ones to play."

For the children 10 and under, the aquatics instructor advises the parents to be within arms-reach of their children; even if they have a life jacket in the water.

"We will have 10 lifeguards here to watch over everyone to prevent anything from happening," she said. "Yet we do ask the parents to be near their children and keep an eye on them."

The Hagerstrom pool was under construction in January and was recently finished in the middle of June. The pool is twice the size of Fairchild and Overton pool with the cost of $2.2 million to renovate and repair. According to Jon Boyd, 18th FSS community services deputy, this facility is an adequate size to best service the customer demand for a recreation swimming facility. Furthermore, the facility will help improve the Aquatics Program and expand on the services and programs offered.

The Hagerstrom pool will be open seven days a week from noon to 6 p.m. until the school year begins. After that, the pool will only be open on the weekends with the same hours.
