Reynaldo Ramon 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- One hundred and seventy-five Kadena High School students reached one of the greatest milestones in life as they turned their tassels from left to right at the Okinawa Civic Center June 8 and graduated. The class valedictorian was Kristin Arden and the salutatorian was her sister Loriann. Competition for the honors was intense with the top four graduates scoring within 100th of a point of each other. High school officials said they were very impressed with all the students of the class of 2007. "It's not often you hear about a tight knit group made up of diversified ethnicities that stick together and strive to complete a common goal - to graduate," said Jeff Arrington, Kadena High School principal. "But this was." A student's last year is often the toughest and is mixed with excitement and dread - a time of transition. "Now I really get to start my life," said Shanelle Madison as the new graduate contemplated what the future held. Being a military child is not as easy as one may think, she said. One has to deal with moving to new schools, making new friends, basically starting all over again. Students often search for things that make going to school on a military base easier. For Shanelle it was choir. "Choir class really got Shanelle through because that was her passion," said Sonia Madison, her mother. "It was really a Godsend." Other graduates will also take memories of classes they enjoyed - whether it was sports, music or a club. "This year some seniors led in multiple sports and all were above a 3.0 GPA," said Mr. Arrington. The graduates of the Kadena High School class of 2007 were: Jennifer R. Abel, Miguel A.
