Customers make Kadena facilities 'best in Air Force" Published April 16, 2007 By Staff Sgt. Kevin Nichols American Forces Network-Okinawa KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Two Air Force facilities on Kadena won the prestigious award of "Best in the Air Force 2006." The Enlisted Club Complex -- which includes the Rocker NCO Club, Banyan Tree Club, Chili's and the Seaside Inn restaurant -- took the top honors along with the Schilling Community Center. Managers from both facilities said they're the best mainly because of customer feedback. "We quantify how happy customers are through ICE comment cards and things like that," said Dick Michels, the Enlisted Club Complex Manager. "The other part of that, of course, is the dedicated team that spent a year working very hard to take care of those customers and supporting the mission." Having that customer feedback is vital to being the best. "It's very important because we work hard to make sure the programs we offer are for the customers," explained Jonathan Boyd, the Schilling Community Center director. Activities and services like ferry ride schedules, the ITT office and internet service was enough to impress Navy Cdr. Lance Moritz and his family who were traveling through Kadena from Guam. "I came in looking for a ferry schedule and they were able to tell me right away when it was leaving," said Commander Moritz, the commanding officer of Naval Operations Support Center Guam. "Then we saw the ITT office and the trips we could take and internet access. This base has a lot of great access." It is compliments like that one that stick in the mind of Mr. Michels. "Actually, that means more to us on the management side. Just somebody saying 'that was a really good Easter buffet' or 'we really had a good time.' That really means a lot to us." A simple thank you is the main ingredient for being the best in the Air Force.
