KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Our time here in the 18th Wing has been far too short, but nevertheless, an awesome experience as part of Team Kadena.

We could not be more proud. Let me reflect on your accomplishments: Airmen engaged in the Global War on Terror from Afghanistan and Iraq to the Philippines; from Nicaragua to Thailand to Russia, across the globe, your warrior spirit ensured that when asked to accomplish a mission, we not only succeeded, we excelled. We learned to "fight the base" and built a robust Okinawa Evacuation System. Our maintenance performance skyrocketed to tops in the Air Force. We made history with the welcoming of the Army's PAC-3 battalion and as host wing for the first overseas deployment of the F-22 Raptor.

When challenges came our way -- manpower or funding cuts that impacted our mission and quality of life -- you stepped up with dedication and professionalism.
You embraced the concept of Winning at everything we do through your selfless Teamwork, individual Leadership, and dynamic Vision. It shows in the way we performed the mission and through the numerous awards this wing has garnered -- for individuals and for units. You truly delivered unmatched combat airpower and contributed to the peace and stability of this important region.

Most of all, Kathleen and I will find it tough to leave Team Kadena because of our friends. From 18th Wing Airmen to our fellow Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and their families, we served alongside heroes defending our nation, our allies, and our values. Moreover, we rekindled Okinawan friendships from 18 years ago, and made new lifelong friends both on and off base. Kadena will always hold a special place in our hearts, and we'll be watching from afar as you continue to notch up "wins" for the 18th Wing and Team Kadena.

Thanks to every one of you for your service. We wish each of you the very best in the future.
