Twice a month, the Military Personnel Section staff keeps their doors open a few extra hours so Airmen can get their personnel paperwork and ID card issues in order.

On the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, the MPS is open for walk-in service from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

"We want to make sure we cover our entire customer service base," said Staff Sgt. April Farrar, assistant NCO in charge of the 18th Force Support Squadron's MPS customer support. "All services that we offer during the day are available during our extended hours."

Master Sgt. Shannon Carter, the MPS superintendent, said the unit started offering the service last year to accommodate Airmen who don't have the typical day shift.

"We've been doing this for about a year and a half to accommodate shift workers and people with special jobs," she said. "In the near future, we're going to reassess our schedule to see if we need to make any changes."

For Airmen like Staff Sgt. Tierra Jenkins who is a patrolman for the 18th Security Forces Squadron, the extended hour services are the difference between a long work day or a good night's rest.

"I work long hours and the fact that they offer after hours for shift workers is extremely helpful," explained Jenkins. "I work 12-hour mid-shifts so it's very conducive to my schedule. If they didn't offer it, I'd have to wake up earlier and come in before my shift."
