The 18th Aerospace Medicine Squadron's Bioenvironmental Engineering Flight has released the 2011 Consumer Confidence Reports.

These reports provide the Department of Defense members and their families residing and operating on Kadena, as well as all sister services members and their families living in Military Family Housing on Okinawa, a detailed report of the quality of the drinking water.

The CCR is comprised of weekly and monthly data taken throughout the year, checking for numerous contaminates, pH and chlorine residuals, as well as checking for the presence or absence of bacteria. These reports comply with guidance set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency standards for water quality.

"Our job is to keep everyone safe, healthy, and out of the hospital," said 1st Lt. Amit Saini, officer in charge of Environmental Quality and Radiation. "We do this by being behind the scenes, constantly testing and evaluating the quality of the drinking water system."

The reports show that the water is not just safe to consume, but it also outlines any issues that may have arisen in the distribution system during the 2011 calendar year.

"We bring out the facts, good or bad, that may be present to the local environment," said Tech. Sgt. John Horgan, NCO in charge of Environmental Health. "We also provide guidance on anything that could be potentially dangerous to the populace, because our overall goal is to increase consumer's confidence in our drinking water system and keep everyone safe."
