The Kadena Officers' Spouses' Club awarded 21 scholarships for a combined total of $24,000 to military family members during a ceremony May 17 at Kadena.

Brig. Gen. Matt Molloy, 18th Wing commander, and Chief Master Sergeant Mark Marson, 18th Wing command chief, attended the ceremony. The general spoke about the importance of an education and about how the KOSC supports our military families.

The KOSC is a group of volunteers committed to promoting volunteerism and service to society by fostering relationships with the Okinawan community through charitable contributions.

The KOSC raises funds by operating the Kadena Gift Corner. Not only do they raise funds for scholarships that benefits our high school seniors and military spouses, the KOSC is a member of the American Women's Welfare Association through which a majority of charitable funds raised are distributed to both American and Japanese charities.

In the past two years, the Kadena Officers' Spouses' Club has awarded $55,000 in scholarships to help students pay for tuition and books.
