The Air Force Inspector General, Lt. Gen. Marc Rogers, presented the 2011 John P. Flynn award to the 18th Wing IG Mr. Gillous Mays during the Secretary of the Air Force's worldwide conference in Landsdowne, Va., on April 30, 2012.

Named after retired Lt. Gen. John P. Flynn, the award recognizes the IG Complaints Resolution Program Office that best embodies his six fundamental characteristics of leadership: integrity, justice, compassion, loyalty, courage and spirit.

According to the nomination package, consideration of this award was given to the IG offices whose performance was proactive as well as going above and beyond during the day-to-day mission requirements.

"Nice work! We're proud of our 18th Wing IG shop," said Brig. Gen. Matthew Molloy, 18th Wing commander.

The 18th Wing IG handles different complaints concerning fraud, waste, and abuse and it steers more than 120 education events such as commander's call, First Term Airmen Center, the newcomer's briefing and as well as senior NCO development seminars for Kadena. The program reaches more than 24,000 Airmen, Department of Defense civilians, and family members.

The IG has increased the program efficiency by 38 percent since 2010.

"We try to resolve their complaints at the lowest level," said Mays. "If there are issues that can't be resolved then that affects their personal lives, and it's going to affect their military lives."

The accomplishments of Mays and Stephen Lovingood made Kadena home of the best Air Force Installation IG office for 2011.
