As a new year begins here at Kadena, so do local operational readiness exercises, starting with the three-day Phase One LORE Jan. 9-11.

Throughout the year, Team Kadena participates in LOREs to train in areas such as mobility, deployment, reception, bedding down of forces, employment and self aid buddy care, for possible real world contingencies.

Although this first LORE will spare Airmen from donning mission oriented protective posture gear, they will still be practicing one of the most important things in their career; preparing to deploy.

"During exercise Beverly High 12-2, Airmen won't be required to wear their MOPP gear," said Maj. John Holovich, 18th Wing Plans and Programs chief, "therefore focus will be on mobilizing personnel and equipment and the ability to survive and operate under various conditions."

With less strain being put on Airmen without MOPP gear, safety is still a top priority for Team Kadena.

"Airmen are reminded to stay hydrated, stay prepared, and recognize any unusual situations at the appropriate level," Holovich said. "While it is important to show a sense of urgency in conducting operations, it is equally important to ensure we are performing our responsibilities safely to avoid unnecessary accidents."
