The first round of winners for the 2011 Football Frenzy contest have been announced, and it looks like Lady Luck is smiling down on Kadena Air Base.

Linda Cobb, a 6th through 8th grade physical education teacher at Kadena Middle School, was recently named as the Pacific Air Forces region's big winner.

After being taken completely by surprise during a routine Department of Defense Dependents Schools teachers' meeting at the school, Cobb says she's still in shock over winning an all-expense paid trip to Glendale, Ariz., where she'll watch the St. Louis Rams face off against the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 6.

"After I have everything planned out and set up I'll be able to take a deep breath, relax, and really enjoy this trip," she said.

Cobb, who has been a member of the Kadena Officers' Club since 2006, said she enjoys eating there every weeknight and chatting with all of the other football fans who gather to watch the big game at the Weekender Lounge, even if they support a rival team.

"It's neat to meet people who are as into their team as you are into yours," she said.

Though she's entered the Football Frenzy drawings several times in past years, it took only one entry for Cobb to win big this football season. Her trip to Glendale, which she can take with a friend or relative of her choice, will also include airfare for two, hotel accommodations, car rental, and tickets to the game.

Cobb says she's still deciding who to take with her, but since she comes from a long line of sports fans, it shouldn't be too hard for her to find a travel companion who's as excited as she is. Cobb described how her grandparents used to gather around their small black and white TV to watch Boston Red Sox baseball games back in the early 1900s. After growing up in New England -- specifically the Boston area -- herself, Cobb roots for her home sports teams of the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, and the Boston Celtics with a passion.

"I would stay up until two in the morning to watch the Celtics play," Cobb said.

If you want to join Cobb and other football fans and root for your favorite teams, stop by one of the clubs here on Kadena, grab some grub, and enjoy the game. There are still plenty of chances to win another all-expense paid trip, including one to the Super Bowl, as well as Football Frenzy merchandise and football jerseys.

The fun doesn't end with the season, either. Stick around for the End-of-Season Bonus Drawing where $500 Force Support Squadron gift cards will be handed out to 10 lucky winners.
