Final out-processing notice for those leaving Island
Due to the upcoming typhoon conditions, all Air Force members pending departure from Kadena between August 4-8 are instructed to report to the military personnel section (MPS) no later than 10:30 a.m. for a mass base final-outprocessing. All members must have all actions completed via vMPF out-processing checklist as well as the required list of items annotated on the "items required to complete final out-processing" document. For those members who have not or will not complete all required actions prior to final-out, it is mandatory that they get in contact with MPS outbound assignments to discuss options for completion of all actions and departure. For those members that MPS cannot get in contact with, flight departures may be cancelled and rescheduled for a later date until verification has been received for all required actions.

Update on Contracting Officer's Representatives required training
Contracting Officer's Representatives required training is currently not accessible through Defense Acquisition University online. Prospective CORs can review CLC 106, Contracting Officer's Representative at:

CLC 013, Overview of Acquisition Ethics is also required, but not yet available. After the DAU Continuous Learning website becomes operational, CORs will be afforded 30 days to complete the aforementioned training online. I-130 Petition Acceptance Day cancelled
The I-130 Petition Submission Day scheduled this Friday at Kadena has been cancelled due to weather. All personnel with standing appointments will be contacted by the U.S. Consulate Naha to reschedule. Child registration for Kadena School Age Programs
For families who are enrolled at a Kadena School Age Programs (Himawari School Age Program or Shima No Ko School Age Program) and will need childcare for the upcoming school year, our Fall Registration Week will take place August 1-5. The registration will be at your child's designated center (Himawari at Bldg. 439 and Shima No Ko at Bldg. 4081). Registration packets will be provided at the front desk and an electronic version will also be emailed to all families. Please turn in your completed packet (one per child) at the front desk no later than Aug. 5. For families who are not enrolled, but require childcare, please go to the Family Care Center or call 634-0514. If you have any further questions, please come by our facility or call 632-0202 for assistance.
Airfield driving program reminder
The 18th Wing Airfield driving program manager would like to remind base airfield drivers that testing, for both initial and refresher training, is conducted through airfield management at building 3382, the18th Operations Support Squadron building. Testing is administered every Tuesday at 9 a.m. and Thursday at 3 p.m. The door closes promptly at those times so please do not be late.
FY12 Officer Training School/Basic Officer Training Board schedule release
The fiscal 2012 Officer Training School/Basic Officer Training Board schedule was released on July 15. All applicants are encouraged to pay close attention to the schedule. Applications with waivers now have an earlier application cut-off date. So it is very important to identify waivers and submit them on time. The schedule can be picked up at the Kadena Education Center at Building 59 on the third floor.
Home business owners and base organizations wanted for "Hai Sai" event

MPS closure for upcoming LORE
The Military Personnel Section will provide limited services during the next local operational readiness exercise Aug. 10-12. Customer service will only provide in-processing and emergency ID cards. Relocations are serving final out appointments only. Awards and decorations will be open during normal business hours. All other sections in the MPS will be closed for the exercise.
Sports team shout-outs cancelled
Due to typhoon conditions, the 18th Wing Public Affairs sports team video shout-out recordings at Kadena Airpark Aug. 4 has been postponed indefinitely. An announcement will be made when the next opportunity arises.
Okinawa Diplomats Youth Futbol Club soccer tryouts
The Okinawa Diplomats Youth Futbol (Soccer) Club is holding two-day tryouts Aug. 20-21 at the soccer fields in front of Camp Lester Naval Hospital. Weather back-up dates for the tryouts are Aug. 27-28. Tryout registration is 8-9 a.m. Saturday, and tryouts are 9 a.m. to noon Saturday and Sunday. The fall season runs from September 3 to December 18. Prospective players must attend both days of tryouts. This is a competitive soccer club that competes against Japanese schools around Okinawa. Airmen Helping Airmen 5K Fundraiser
The Airmen helping Airmen 5K fundraiser will be held on August 19 at the Risner Fitness Center. The fundraiser is in support of Operation Warmheart. All donations will go to the 1,100 displaced Airmen and family members of the Minot community that have been devastated by recent floods. Registration for the 5K will begin at 6 a.m. The fundraiser is open to all SOFA status personnel. Bake Sale
There will be a bake sale in the customer service area in building 721B. The event is hosted by the 18 Force Support Squadron Booster Club. The proceeds will go towards squadron morale. Items such as cookies, brownies, peanut butter cups, and more will be available to purchase from 7:30-11:30 am Aug. 5. In case unfavorable weather, the back-up date for this event is Aug. 8 at the same time.

The next monthly AFSA meeting will be held at the Rocker NCO Club in the Kuba Room at 11 a.m. Aug. 4. The meeting is open to all active duty members and retirees.
Annual sports physicals at Kadena Medical Clinic
U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa and the 18th Medical Group will offer walk-in sports physicals at the Kadena Medical Group Clinic, Building 626, on Aug. 13 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The annual walk-in clinic for sports physicals is a joint effort to offer a convenient way for parents to prepare youth sports participants for the upcoming school year. The event is open to children 6-17 years old who are eligible for care at military medical facilities in Okinawa. Students need to bring all necessary forms required for each sports activity and their most up-to-date immunization record to be reviewed. All participants are required to wear athletic gear (gym shorts, t-shirt or tank top, and athletic shoes) and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. School supply drive
The 18th Security Forces Squadron will be hosting a school supply drive on Aug. 6-7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kadena Base Exchange. All donations will be sent to Airmen deployed to Afghanistan and distributed to schools and the local national children. Helping to further the education of Afghan children helps bolster relations between U.S. forces and the people of Afghanistan.
Fourth-annual Kadena Special Olympics Fill the Boot
The Fire Department will be outside the Olympic and Fairchild shoppettes Aug. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for their fourth-annual Fill the Boot fundraiser for the Kadena Special Olympics. On Aug. 6-7, they will be at the Kadena Base Exchange, Commissary and both shoppettes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
SOG change of command
The Air Force Special Operations Command requests the honor of your presence to attend a change of command ceremony at which Col. Robert P. Toth will relinquish command of the 353d Special Operations Group to Col. Brad M. Sullivan. The ceremony will be held at 353d Special Operations Maintenance Squadron Hangar building 3671 on Aug. 5 at 9:30 a.m. The required dress for military is uniform of the day and civilian attire should be business casual.
Dad's 101 seminar

Stress Management Day
HAWC and Family Advocacy are hosting a Stress Management Day August 24 from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. at the Health and Wellness Center. A stretch and flex activity outside on the lawn will kick the day off, and a stress management workshop will be held from noon to 1 p.m. The USO mobile unit will be on site throughout the day and food will be available. Kadena High School football conditioning
The Kadena High School football team is looking for volunteers who can commit to helping high school students complete their summer conditioning camp which lasts from June 20 through Aug. 10. Volunteers would be required to supervise workouts on any two days of their choice at 8:30 -11 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
This will be a great opportunity for service members to earn volunteer hours, and the coach will write letters for volunteers' military portfolios in appreciation of the help. Volunteers are influential and essential in helping to shape the future for these young athletes.

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony
The Kadena 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Committee is looking for anyone who may have been at Ground Zero on 9/11, either the World Trade Center or Pentagon, and is willing to share their story during the upcoming ceremony. The 10th Anniversary 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony will be held on Sept. 9 at the 18th Wing Flag Poles.
The Kadena 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony Committee is also looking for National Anthem singers. Preferred candidates are experienced in singing both the Japanese and American National anthems; however, having two singers are a possibility. If interested, please send an e-mail to Master Sgt. Soccer and volleyball Coaches Needed
Kadena Youth Sports and Fitness is looking for volunteer coaches for their upcoming youth soccer and volleyball season. Soccer coaches are needed for age groups 5-6, 7- 8, 9-10, and 13-15. Volleyball coaches are needed for age groups 9-11 and 12-15. The season will run from Sept. 6 to Nov. 19.
