Road Tax due July 31 As a reminder from 18th Security Forces Squadron, all "Y-plate" Status of Forces Agreement-status vehicles must purchase a 2011 Japanese Road Tax sticker by July 31. The 2011 sticker is red in color and has the number "23" in the middle. Owners will need all original paperwork to include the vehicle title, Japanese Compulsory Insurance, Property Damage Insurance, military registration and recycling ticket. Owners can get their 2011 road tax sticker from their insurance company, one of the Joint Services Vehicle Registration Office events held at each military installation on the island, or the Okinawa Road Tax office located outside Camp Kinser's Gate 4, next to the land transportation office. For further information on updating your road tax sticker, please refer to the Camp Foster JSVRO at 645-3963/7481/4299. Displaying a non-current road tax sticker on the windshield of your vehicle is a ticketable offense, and not displaying any road tax sticker is also a separate ticketable offense. Vehicles must have current road tax paperwork and the sticker must be physically placed on the top of the front windshield in the center, near the rearview mirror. Area Defense Counsel's office closure The Area Defense Counsel's office will be closed July 14-15 for carpet installation. We will return your call as soon as possible or e-mail TSgt Heather McKee at heather.mckee@kadena.af.mil Urinalysis/Drug Demand Reduction program location change Kadena's Drug Demand Reduction program has moved from the current location in the 18th Medical Treatment Facility, Building 626, to Building 428, which is located on the southwest corner of Kuter Avenue and Rickenbacker Road, across the parking lot from the Schilling Community Center. This facility already houses the Health and Wellness Center, Women Infants and Children office, and the Bio-Environmental Engineering office. All personnel will sign in at Room 115 in Building 428 for urinalysis testing. Any questions should be directed to the Drug Demand Reduction program manager, Rory Calhoun, at 630-4402. PCS assignment help As a military personnel squadron, we are trying to service our customers better and allow them easier access by using SharePoint for relocation matters. The Kadena Eagles baseball team is open to all Status of Forces-status personnel on Okinawa who are 18 years old or older. LRS Personal Property and Passenger Service Element new hours LRS Personal Property and Passenger Service Element has new hours to better accommodate customers. Effective immediately, LRS will be open until 8 p.m on Wednesdays. Additionally, to improve personnel's ability to support customers, LRS will conduct in-house training every thursday afternoon, closing these functions at 1 p.m. The take away from this training is a more well-rounded Airmen or MLC civilian to assist you with all your travel and personal property needs. ONLINE CAC scheduling Common Access Cards are created on appointment-only basis except for Walk-in Wednesdays and emergencies. Effective immediately, personnel can schedule CAC appointments online using the link below. Base library closure The base library will be closed July 23 for an all-day power outage. Assignments notification process On July 1, 2011, assignment Report on Individual Persons have gone away. Information found on the assignment RIP is located on vMPF. The MPS Relocations Office will e-mail a message with instructions and PPCs (if applicable) to personnel selected for an assignment. Currently, the only personnel requiring RIPs are unit security managers processing needed clearance requirements. To meet the need, we will send a monthly roster of personnel w/PPC codes to unit electronic correspondence boxes (ATTN: Security Manager) so security managers can process needed clearance requirements w/out requiring RIPs. Additional improvements to the relocations process include updated forms and checklists to clarify and streamline the process for orders completion and final out processing. Self proctoring German driver's license online test Driver's license testing online is now open to all Common Access Card holders using military computer systems and permanently changing stations to Ramstein Air Base, Spangdahlem Air Base, or any supported GSUs. That includes Air Force members, Department of Defense civilians, and all other personnel possessing a CAC card and PCSing/processing through an Air Force installation. When ready to test click the Annual CGOC golf tournament cancelled The Kadena Company Grade Officers Council's golf tournament at the Banyan Tree Golf Course scheduled for July 15 is cancelled. Ryukyu Middle School sports complex maintenance The Ryukyu Middle School (RMS) sports complex (football field, softball field and the track) will be under construction from July 6 to Sept. 1. During this period of construction, DoDDS has placed the fields and track off-limits to ensure the fields have the appropriate time to reset so the conditioning efforts are ready for the upcoming school year. The RMS track and field sports complex is surrounded by a fence with locked gates. Although signs are posted around the sports complex instructing people to stay off the fields, several people have been seen disregarding the signs and jumping over the fence to use the fields and the track. RMS is asking all these individuals to discontinue trespassing on their premises. Erwin Airman Leadership School looking to hire sharp SSgt The Erwin Airman Leadership School is looking to immediately hire a sharp staff sergeant interested in teaching ALS at the largest Professional Military Education Center in Pacific Air Forces. Applicants are restricted to staff sergeant and cannot have a line number to technical sergeant. Applicants must have their Community College of the Air Force degree or equivalent and should be capable and comfortable speaking to large groups or audiences. Minimum score of 75 is required on the Air Force physical fitness test. Applicant must not be on a temporary or permanent profile. Must have staff sergeant on prior to applying and must have completed the Airman Leadership School in-residence course. Applicants must have or be eligible to obtain 36 months retainability if selected for the minimum three year controlled tour. Do not apply if you have an SRB, an assignment or approved retraining date. Applicant will be required to attend Enlisted Professional Military Education Instructor Course prior to Oct. 11. 18th MDG closure The 18th Medical Group is closed for readiness training from noon-5 p.m. the third Thursday of every month. The next closure will be on July 21. Phone lines will be open to schedule appointments. Kadena Air Force Ball Committee holding National Anthem singer auditions The Kadena Air Force Ball Committee is holding National Anthem singer auditions July 22 between 11 a.m-noon in the Schilling Community Center Ballroom. Candidates must be experienced in singing both Japanese and American National anthems, two singers will be chosen if both anthems are not known by a single singer. The Air Force Ball this year is happening on Sept. 17 at the Rocker NCO Club, so please ensure you will be available for the event and all practices. The Icebreaker will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the ceremony will be from 6-9 p.m. Family child care new provider's orientation A family child care new provider's orientation is July 19 and 20 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. The family child care office is looking for people who will work weekends, nights, and with children 2 years old and under. Team Kadena 56 Club meeting The Kadena 56 Club will meet July 21 at noon at the Rocker NCO Club in the Kuba room. Lunch will be provided. The meeting is open to all services. Kadena 56 offers challenging leadership opportunities with a focus on professional development. We also provide aid and assistance to base agencies and the local community. Kadena quarterly awards ceremony Come out and support the 18th Wing and Team Kadena's 2nd quarter award winners. The ceremony will be held July 22 at 3 p.m. at the Keystone Theater. 2011 Okinawa summer traffic safety campaign The 2011 Okinawa summer traffic safety campaign will run from July 12-21. Japanese police will conduct traffic enforcement within Okinawa Prefecture during this period by establishing sobriety check points, speed/parking enforcement, monitor vehicle traffic, etc. The campaign slogan is "Family, friends, and community's bond to not allow someone to drive under the influence!" Enforcement Priority: 1. Eradication of driving under the influence incidents. 2. Prevention of accidents involving children and elderly people. 3. Prevention of accidents involving two wheeled vehicles such as motorcycles and bicycles. Be a Safe and Courteous Driver. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES Wired Bean volunteer The Wired Bean Airmen Ministry Center is in need of dedicated staff and technical sergeants during the week on Tuesdays and Thursdays for the month of July. The duty is from 6-10 p.m. and consists of helping out around the Wired Bean, mentoring, getting schooled on video games by the Airmen, or just hanging out and chatting with them. Kadena High School football conditioning The Kadena High School football team is looking for volunteers who can commit to helping high school students complete their summer conditioning camp which lasts from June 20 through Aug. 10. Volunteers would be required to supervise workouts on any two days of their choice from 8:30-11 a.m. Monday through Thursday. This will be a great opportunity for service members to earn volunteer hours, and the coach will write letters for volunteers' military portfolios in appreciation of the help. Volunteers are influential and essential in helping to shape the future for these young athletes. Two traffic guards will be needed in front of S.H.E.S. each morning from 8:45-9:05 a.m. and noon-12:15 p.m. Monday-Friday. The Summer School dates are June 27-July 22.
