2011 Team Kadena Earth Week Proclamation Published April 15, 2011 18th Wing/Public Affairs Kadena AB, Japan -- Whereas, Okinawa is a special island with many unique attributes: clear, blue waters teeming with a variety of aquatic life; green jungles filled with wonderful flora and fauna; and beautiful coral sand beaches where the two meet. Team Kadena has an obligation to protect these wonders by conducting its activities in an environmentally sound manner and to establish a high standard of conservation. Every member of Team Kadena is expected to be an environmental steward and to set the example for fellow service members, family members, and the local community; and Whereas, the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day will be celebrated on April 22, 2010. Earth Day began through the efforts of grassroots organizations to raise environmental awareness and encourage lawmakers to act. From those humble beginnings, Earth Day has become an international celebration of our natural resources and a reminder to preserve and to protect them; and Whereas, closer to home, Team Kadena will observe Earth Week, not just Earth Day. Our theme this year is "Perform Daily Acts of Green," reminding us that we can each improve the world through our everyday activities. Whether we recycle, use reusable shopping bags, or "TSO B4 U GO," each of us has the opportunity to change our habits in small but meaningful ways. When combined, these small changes have a large and lasting impact on our society and on our environment; and Therefore, Team Kadena will join together to celebrate Earth Week, April 17 to April 24, 2010, by sharing ways in which we can improve and preserve our world. We encourage everyone to actively participate in Earth Week 2010 and to inspire our friends and neighbors to "Perform Daily Acts of Green."
