With a parade, rides for children, contests and much more, this year's Tinsel Town will kick off the holiday season, Dec. 4.

The event starts at 2 p.m. with a holiday parade welcoming Santa Claus to the Schilling Community Center parking lot. It will be followed by the lighting of the base holiday tree at 5:30 p.m.

"The base tree lighting is to kick off the holiday season," Amelia Lockamy-Keller, director of the Schilling, said. "It puts everyone into the mental mode of kindness and sharing."

Tinsel Town attractions for children include bouncers, a Merry-Go-Round and a train ride. Parents should be sure to bring cameras to Santa's house to get pictures of him with the children.

A magic show featuring Kernel Popcorn will be held in the Schilling ballroom at 5 p.m.

The T-da Hip Hop dancers, the III MEF Band and the Kadena High School Jazz Band are scheduled to perform in the parking lot throughout the day.

Greeting card contest winners will also be announced, along with the winners of the Holiday float contest. Smaller contests are scheduled to happen throughout the day.

Along with the attractions and contests, food and game vendors will be available in the parking lot during the event.
