Deployed Kadena Airmen recognized Published Sept. 2, 2010 By 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Two Kadena Airmen were recognized for their efforts at their deployed location in Southwest Asia. The 405th Air Expeditionary Group Commander, Col. Gregory Schwartz, awarded Kadena Airman 1st Class Malcolm Macdonald, deployed from the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron here at Kadena, "Performer of the Month" and Staff Sgt. Marcelino Mariano, also from the 18th LRS here as "Warrior of the Week." During their deployment, they've off-loaded more than 300 M-ATVs from a ship at a Southwest Asia port, staged them for upload and transported them to their deployed location in Afghanistan. They have also loaded several Persistent Threat Detection Systems trailers onto C-17s headed to Afghanistan, built a tri-connex perimeter, moved 120 tri-connexes, helped build two high-line cargo docks for cargo upload/download operations, and staged expandable facilities.
