Team Kadena observes Flag Day

KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Members of Team Kadena observed Flag Day June 14 by retiring out-of-service flags. This is an annual event sponsored by the local chapter of the Air Force Sergeants Association.

This year's Flag Day celebrates the 233rd anniversary of the adoption of the United States flag. Although Flag Day is not a federal holiday, it was established by proclamation of President Woodrow Wilson in 1916. In 1949, President Harry S. Truman signed an act of Congress designating June 14 as National Flag Day.
