The 18th Force Support Squadron hosted its first-ever "Operation Spousal Warrior" May 12 at the Airman and Family Readiness Center.

The forum was open to all military members in the squadron getting ready to deploy as well as their spouses. Spousal Warrior offered attendees the chance to get firsthand information on opportunities and services available for spouses while military members are deployed as well as an opportunity to meet and discuss concerns with squadron leadership.

"We designed Operation Spousal Warrior to take care of our deploying warriors and their families," said Maj. Chris Hauver, 18th FSS operations officer. "It gives family members the most up-to-date information on the services offered to the family during the Airman's absence and offers some peace of mind to the deploying member."

Briefers included members of the Airman and Family Readiness Center, Families Overcoming Under Stress (FOCUS) and a military family life consultant.

Spouses participated in exercises that focused on effective communication, recognizing stressors and budgeting. They were also able to talk with military members who have been to the locations their spouses will be deploying to.

Even dual military couples discovered new information at the event.

"The meeting was extremely informative, even with us being a mil-to-mil couple," said Senior Airman Kayla Brown from the 18th Wing command section. "We learned about all the amenities our daughter can enjoy, even with both of us deployed." Airman Brown is married to Senior Airman Reginald Brown from the 18th FSS.

The FSS plans to hold future iterations of "Operation Spousal Warrior" for each AEF cycle.
