A Kadena Airman was found dead this morning after going missing yesterday near Cape Hedo, Okinawa. The Airman had been snorkeling with friends at the time he went missing.

The identity of the Airman is being withheld until 24 hours after next-of-kin notification.

The Japan Coast Guard conducted search and rescue operations yesterday afternoon and Kadena's 33rd Rescue Squadron, supported by members of the 31st Rescue Squadron, 17th Special Operations Squadron and 320th Special Tactics Squadron took over the search last night. Members of Kadena's rescue forces found the Airman in the water around 8 a.m. this morning.

"We are all saddened by this tragic loss to one of our team members," said Brig. Gen. Ken Wilsbach, 18th Wing commander. "Our thoughts and prayers are with this young man's family, friends and fellow Airmen."
