Local firefighters respond to Kadena flames

KADENA AIR BASE, Japan --  Firefighters from Kadena Air Base, nearby Torii Station, and Okinawa City fire departments responded to a fire Monday morning in a rural area outside Gate 3, on Kadena property. 

The fire was contained in a 50-by-20 foot area on the east side of the base and officials believe that a debris pile was the source.

"The operation went seamless from communicating to requesting equipment, and knowing who`s in charge," said Chief Master Sgt. Rodolfo Gonzalez, Kadena fire chief. "This is a perfect example of joint training that we have done with the Okinawa City and Torii Station fire departments." 

There were no injuries, casualties or structural damage reported. The exact cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
