AAFES advises temporary closures at Kadena gas stations Published July 15, 2009 By 18th Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- The Army and Air Force Exchange Service gas stations on Kadena Air Base will be receiving scheduled tank replacements beginning July 20. Tank replacement at the main gas station will be done sequentially, thereby eliminating the need for full closure. Midgrade gasoline will remain available at Kadena's main gas station for the duration of the scheduled tank replacement. The gas station at the Fairchild Shoppette will be closed during its tank replacement, which is not scheduled to begin until after the main gas station becomes fully operational. "The schedule has been staggered to reduce the amount of inconvenience to customers," said Jeff Craven, AAFES spokesman. "Any changes to the above schedule will be announced to the Kadena community as they arise." Due to the limited number of diesel fuel tanks, diesel will not be available from Aug. 3 through 24 on Kadena Air Base. Customers needing diesel fuel can find it at the following AAFES gas stations: Camps Foster, Kinser, Courtney and Schwab. The scheduled closure dates are as follows: July 20-Aug. 15 Kadena main gas station will remain open with 50 percent of the mid-grade pumps operational. Aug. 3-24 Diesel pumps at the Kadena main gas station will be closed. Aug. 24-Sept. 19 Kadena Fairchild gas station will be closed.
