DoDDS Okinawa Spring Registration for 2009-2010 Published March 25, 2009 By Laura Stoller KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- All students attending Department of Defense Dependents Schools in the Okinawa district are required to register for the next school year. This process enables the district to project student enrollment and maintain current student information. School and bus registration for school year 2009-2010 will take place during Spring Recess, Tuesday-Friday, April 7-10, 2009 from 0900 -1230. School and Bus Registration will be conducted at two convenient locations - Kadena Middle School and Lester Middle School. This customer-oriented, 'one-stop' registration will save parents time. Students who currently attend school on Kadena AB will register at Kadena Middle School. Students who currently attend Lester Middle School, Kubasaki High School, EC Killin, Bechtel, Kinser or Zukeran Elementary schools will register at Lester Middle School. The schools will have registration, transportation, free/reduced lunch, and immunization stations staged at these two locations. Parents will register at the school station where their child currently attends even if your child will transfer to another school for SY09-10. If you are unable to participate in the spring registration process, you may also choose to register your child(ren) at their home school office after the spring break. Families arriving in Okinawa after spring break will also need to register their children at the appropriate school(s) as soon as they arrive. Sponsors will be asked to revalidate current information including your current quarters address, telephone numbers and emergency contacts. If your quarters have changed, bring your current on-base housing assignment letter or off-base lease with a map to your house. Active Duty sponsors must bring a copy of extension orders if their orders will expire before 31 Aug 09. Civilian sponsors must bring current year Certificate of Employment letter to verify full-time employment or renewal agreement travel orders. Kindergarten registration will be available for children who will be age 5 by September 1, 2009. New students that register will need sponsor orders/extension or verification of employment, birth certificate or passport, social security number, immunization records, and a copy of current housing assignment letter/off base housing lease. Sure Start applications will also be available for students who will be age 4 by September 1, 2009. The Student Transportation Office will have a station at each location to process bus registration for next school year. Please register with your school first to obtain a copy of the Student Registration Form and then proceed to the bus registration station. Students must be present to be photographed for the new bus pass. To apply for free or reduced lunches, please bring a current Leave and Earnings Statement. Immunizations required for school will be available during registration, as well. Parents need to bring the updated shot records with them. US Naval Hospital Okinawa will be at Lester Middle School to service only those children whose records are kept at the hospital and Kadena Clinic will be at Kadena Middle School to service children with records at their clinic. Additionally, as part of the ongoing effort to stay in contact with parents, Superintendent Martha Brown and Deputy Superintendent Carol Czerw will be on hand one day at each location to provide information and resources regarding transitions, how to assist children during deployments, and our schools in general. They will be available toanswer questions, as well. They will be at KMS on April 7, 0930-1130 and at LMS on April 8, 0930-1130.
