The Logistics Standardization and Evaluation Team from Headquarters Air Combat Command Langley, Air Force Base, Va. visited Kadena Air Base to inspect the 82nd Reconnaissance Squadron maintenance organizations Nov. 3 through 7.

The inspection is conducted once every two years and evaluators look at every aspect of aircraft maintenance and associated support functions.

"Preparation and execution are the keys to a successful LSET," said Lt. Col. Robert Mundie, 82nd  Reconnaissance Squadron commander. "Before the arrival of the inspection team, each squadron maintenance program was reviewed and checked by program leaders."

During preparation for the inspection, squadron members rehearsed routine maintenance tasks with a sense of urgency, enthusiasm and a close attention to detail, which is a large part of the actual inspection, the colonel said.

Master Sgt. Craig Adams, 18th RS lead production superintendent, believes one can put a tremendous amount of time into preparing for inspections, but there is an enormous amount of information to cover and inevitably something can be missed, which makes preparation the key to success.

Squadron members started an in-depth preparation program late August and every program leader made sure their areas were in compliance with regulations. Each program was then reviewed by squadron leadership and scrutinized by experts outside the squadron during Staff Assistance Visits.

A lot went into preparing for this inspection said Colonel Mundie. Airmen of the 82nd RS took the "Back to Basics" approach to learn all their technical orders such as Air Force Occupational and Environmental Safety, Fire Protection and Health standards. Squadron leadership believes the inspection went very well and that a positive attitude and sense of urgency were displayed by the men and women of the 82nd RS.

After the inspection, it was reported that all personal inspections and evaluator proficiency inspections passed. The maintenance organizations had zero-direct safety violations, zero-tech data reservations and zero-unsafe condition reports.

"The entire inspection was a great success and the men and women of the 82nd showed Headquarters ACC that we have a very competent group of professionals," said Sergeant Adams. "It was definitely an entire squadron win and everyone had something to contribute to the success of this inspection."
