ID appointment system goes online Published Sept. 24, 2007 By Senior Airman Nestor Cruz 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Making an appointment to get a new identification card will be easier when the new appointment system goes online here Oct. 1. The 18th Mission Support Squadron's customer service team is setting up a new system that will enable members to make their own appointments with a few clicks of their computer mouse. "This will benefit our customers and customer service," said Senior Airman Kristie Payne, 18th MSS lead customer service representative. "Customers will be able to make appointments without having to call everyday, trying to get through. We will also benefit by spending less time answering calls and spending more time helping our customers." Members can use any government computer to locate the appointment system via the Air Force Portal and following the links to Kadena or by logging into https://es.cac.navy.mil/signup.pl. "When folks click on the short link, there will be a listing of all the military bases on the island," said Tech. Sgt. Benjamin Johnson, 18th MSS NCO-in-charge of customer service. "To make an appointment through AF Portal, people will need to locate and click on Kadena under the bases-orgs-functional areas link, then 18th MSS and military personnel flight, and finally customer service. When making an appointment, people can put in their desired dates and based on availability, choose from a list of times." Once an appointment is made, customers will receive a confirmation e-mail which includes directions to customer service and a list of requirements based on the original request. "If the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System is down, the appointment system gives me the ability to send out a mass e-mail in the event we can't reach them by phone," said Sergeant Johnson. "So it improves and enhances communication with our customers." Kadena members are reminded that in the event of a lost or stolen I.D. card, they must report the loss to their first sergeant. "The first sergeant will give the member a letter which should be taken to the 18th Security Forces Squadron before seeing us," said Sergeant Johnson. "We have to keep track of the number of lost I.D. cards since it happens frequently and folks need to understand that lost or stolen cards compromise our security." The 18th MSS customer service is open from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. For more information, call 18th MSS customer service at 634-5121.
