Members of the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron put their rapid mobility skills to the test during a routine readiness exercise at Kadena Air Base, Japan, Nov. 4, 2025.

The scenario focused on the squadron’s cargo deployment function, challenging Airmen to prepare, inspect and certify cargo for airlift operations under simulated combat conditions. They also measured how quickly and efficiently the team could move mission-essential equipment to meet operational timelines.

“Accurately weighing cargo is essential in any operation,” said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Devin Murphy, 18th LRS inbound cargo supervisor. “We are ready to push assets to where they need to be at any time.”

During the exercise, Airmen practiced every stage of the deployment process -- from transporting the cargo, to prepping and certifying for airlift.

“We’ve transported cargo down to the yards, prepped it for airlift and made sure it meets all the requirements to get on an aircraft,” said U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Daniel Hulburt, 18th LRS superintendent of air transportation functions. “Over the last 24 hours, our team has processed more than 97,000 pounds of cargo for airlift operations.”

Behind the scenes, the Installation Deployment Readiness Cell coordinated with multiple units across base to track deployment tasks, manage schedules and ensuring every piece of equipment arrived on time for inspection.

The 18th Wing continues to prioritize readiness and rapid global mobility. Exercises like this ensure every Airman is prepared to execute the mission at a moment’s notice. From the warehouse to the flight line, Kadena’s logistics professionals remain ready, reliable and lethal.
