PACAF IG visits Kadena Published Sept. 14, 2015 By Airman 1st Class Lynette M. Rolen 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Members of the Pacific Air Forces Inspector General team are visiting Kadena between Sept. 14 and 18. This visit is to ensure that Kadena is performing at the level it should be, in compliance with Air Force Instructions and standards. "The purpose of the visit is to provide a hands-on opportunity for PACAF inspectors to validate the findings and observations reported from the 18th Wing and to ensure that the wing is continually in compliance with the AFIs and Technical Orders," said Major Daniel Uger, 18th Wing inspections director. In addition to ensuring compliance with instructions, this visit will examine the daily processes of units. Uger mentioned that inspectors will embed with units to observe operations and determine compliance and effectiveness. "The inspectors will be evaluating programs and processes determined to be the highest risk for non-compliance," said Major Joe Crispen, PACAF/IG, 5th Air Force lead. Common examples of these programs and processes are equipment maintenance and personnel training. The inspectors will also be examining the communication and operations of different units. This particular visit is one of three that will be conducted over the next two years in order to monitor the progress of the 18th Wing. Any unit may be visited by the IG team, so it is not only critical for units to be compliant, but to maintain compliancy at all times. "PACAF IG hasn't provided a schedule or a list of affected units, but personnel should be ready to answer the inspectors' questions with candor and professionalism," Uger commented. Once the inspection is complete, the results will be given to the appropriate leadership for action. "Additionally, the results of this site visit and the continuous virtual inspection performed by PACAF IG will be incorporated into the grade the 18th Wing receives at the January 2017 UEI (Unit Effectiveness Inspection) capstone visit," said Uger. Crispen commented that the grade will go to headquarters Air Force to monitor any trends in PACAF. This will allow headquarters to see if any base needs help in a certain area. "While the grade is a reflection on the hard work 18th Wing Airmen have put in over the two year inspection period, the content in the final report will allow us to continually improve our processes within the units of Team Kadena," said Lt. Col. Daniel Hasley, 18th Wing deputy inspector general. This inspection is done for the benefit of the wing. The inspectors want to ensure that the wing is performing to the best of its ability. "Overall, we're here to support the wing and help it get better," said Crispen.
