Kadena Airman dies in SCUBA diving accident Published Oct. 22, 2014 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- An Airman assigned to Kadena Air Base died Saturday during a SCUBA diving accident off the coast of Okinawa, approximately 30 miles north of the base. Tech. Sgt. Jason D. McIlvaine, 42, 18th Aerospace Medicine Squadron was diving near Serakaki Village, Okinawa City, Japan. Two Airmen noticed that McIlvaine was in distress and brought him to the surface, where they saw that he was not breathing. They performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation until local medical responders arrived and took over. McIlvaine was then transported via helicopter to a local hospital in Nakagami. The doctors on duty were unable to revive him and pronounced him deceased at 12:33 p.m.
