AmericaFest 2014: Remember safety Published June 11, 2014 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- As AmericaFest 2014 approaches June 28-29, attendees are advised to keep an eye out and stay safe. With the hottest months on island at the doorstep, along with often unpredictable rain, participants should remember that proper planning and preparation can be the difference between an eventful festival and a last-minute trip to the hospital. "Plan ahead," said Master Sgt. Jeremy Nixon, 18th Wing Safety Office NCOIC of mishap investigations. "Have your supplies or have a way to purchase them. If you can't bring them think about getting those while you're out and about." Each person should consider bringing the following: · Water · Sun block · Umbrellas and/or parasols · Hats or scarfs · Close-toed shoes Nixon also reminded those enjoying the festivities to pay attention to their surroundings. "Remember that because it'll be on the flightline, put trash in proper areas, use designated smoking areas and stay hydrated," Nixon said. Because the event will lead into the night, traffic safety should be of the utmost importance, he added.
