Kadena facility numbers to be replaced by March 31 Published March 28, 2014 By 18th Wing Public Affairs KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Due to the expiration of the Verizon communication contract through the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, numbers beginning with "959" will no longer be available as of March 31. Many numbers throughout AAFES and 18th Force Support Squadron facilities have already been replaced, while base housing land lines will cease operations as of the end of the month. Despite the relinquishment of land lines, Charles Cowan, Pacific Telecom business manager, said Status of Forces Agreement personnel will be able to utilize numerous other services available at the Exchange, many of which use internet services. "Verizon's contract will expire March 31," Cowan said. "We have selected a new provider with a vision to provide U.S. numbers. The residential community can visit the Exchange and select from a variety of services from mobile to (Voice over Internet Protocol). If you have internet, there's a host of services."
