The U.S. Marine Corps celebrated its 232nd anniversary Nov. 10. MWHS-1 is the parent organization of Marine Wing Liaison Kadena. MWLK provides comprehensive operational and logistical support to local and deployed U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Navy squadrons operating at Kadena Air Base, Japan, and facilitates essential liaison with the U.S. Air Force’s 18th Wing and the U.S. navy’s Commander Fleet Activities Okinawa, which are located on Kadena. Senior Airman Robert Shannon secures the back door of the 18th Communications Squadron building with duct tape to prevent leakage into the building at Kadena Air Base, Japan , Sep 14, 2007, in preparation for Typhoon Nari. The base prepared itself for typhoon by moving jets and equipment from the flightline into protective aircraft shelters and evacuated many aircraft to locations throughout the Pacific.
