Dental lab, keeping military members, families healthy and happy

U.S. Air Force Senior Airman Jennifer Baer, 18th Dental Squadron dental lab technician, examines how a dental bridge fits onto a clay cast of teeth on Kadena Air Base, Japan, June 11, 2012. A bridge is a dental restoration to replace a missing tooth by bridging the gap with a gold restoration or a porcelain tooth. The average number of products the Area Dental Lab puts out a week totals 50 units. After personnel cuts were made in 2009, the Area Dental Lab on Kadena went from a team of 22 Airmen down to 12 Airmen. Along with providing different dental products to active-duty members on Kadena, the ADL also provides units to other military bases in the pacific region in order to keep all active-duty members mission ready. Some bases include Osan Air Base, Korea and Misawa Air Base, Japan. For the ADL, their peak busy season is during the summer months while service members get ready to change duty stations.
