Kris Waterman, wife of Master Sgt. Michael Waterman from Det. 1, 554th Red Horse Squadron, Staff Sgt. Maria Whitworth and Staff Sgt. Linda Castro from the 909th Air Refueling Squadron, and Seiei Gakiya, Koza Gate 2 Street president, twist three separate strands of rope together to add to Okinawa City's tug-of-war rope. Volunteers from Kadena and neighboring communities came together Nov. 15 to help put together pieces of a 3-ton, 300-yard long tug-of-war rope that will be used in the Okinawa City International Carnival and Gate 2 Fest Nov. 21. The tug-of-war, which is one of the highlights of the two-day festivities, begins at 6 p.m. on Gate 2 Street off base. (Air Force/Staff Sgt. Jason Lake)
