Brig. Gen. Ken Wilsbach, 18th Wing commander, talks with Japanese Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada during a site visit to Kadena Monday. According to Japanese press reports, the foreign minister toured Kadena to personally research the possibility of combining Marine Corps Air Station Futenma with the air base. The relocation of Futenma is a key measure of a major realignment plan signed by both countries three years ago. Kadena is the largest Air Force installation in the Pacific region and home to the largest combat air wing in the Air Force. The base hosts the wing in addition to 40 tenant units representing six Air Force major commands, and elements of the U.S. Army, Navy and Marine Corps.
