Veteran weapons loader finishes 28-year career where it all began

KADENA AIR BASE, Japan -- Senior Master Sgt. Robert Meyer, 67th Aircraft Maintenance Unit's assistant superintendent, took one last opportunity to mentor his unit's newest Airmen like Airman 1st Class Erik Schmidt (left) before retiring Sept. 18. Sergeant Meyer spent more than 17 years of his career at Kadena. "I love the people here and I love the island," he said shortly after completing his final weapons load on an F-15 that was here when he first arrived as an airman basic in 1982. "The local community has always been very welcoming and Kadena is an awesome place to raise kids." (Air Force/Staff Sgt. Jason Lake)
