Shogun-Seabees and 18th CES

The 18th Civil Engineer Squadron and the Navy Seabees lay out a folded fiberglass mat which allows aircraft to land on a smooth surface at Kadena Air Base, Japan May 14, 2009. During the 18th Wing's weeklong local operational readiness exercise, the crews worked to patch 10-foot deep holes caused by mock bomb explosions. This was the first time both organizations practiced airfield damage repair in a simulated combat zone. The Seabees are in a 6 month rotation here and are being integrated into training with Airmen to capitalize on all engineering assets and fulfill the mission here. (U.S. Air Force photo/Tech. Sgt.
