'Cable Dawgs' provide Kadena airfield with fiber optics

"Cable Dawgs" from the 18th Communications Squadron pose for a group photo atop a trencher on Kadena Air Base, Japan, April 16, 2014. Installing more than 28,000 feet of direct fiber cables underground into the airfields localizers, glide scopes and its VORTAC, the fiber optics will replace the 20-to 30-year-old copper circuits the airfield is currently utilizing and upgrade its infrastructure to allow the airfield to receive remote maintenance and system updates from the regional maintenance center at Yokota Air Base, Japan.
